Today’s letter was inspired by this important reminder from that it’s okay to suck at things, and you probably know more than you realize.
Can I tell you a secret?
(It’s not really a secret. Your friends already know. Probably everyone you’ve ever met already knows. You might be the only person in the world who doesn’t know.)
You are a badass — a legit, bona fide, no doubts about it badass.
How do I know? You’re here, aren’t you? You’re making your art, doing your thing, bravely putting your heart’s work out into the world.
If that’s not badass, I don’t know what is.
Back in my marketing executive days, I would often coach my colleagues on how to boost their credibility in front of customers. We’d look at their LinkedIn profiles, they’d tell me about their work history, and I’d point out the strengths and stories that resonated with me.
Again and again, people were shocked to hear their own brilliance articulated back to them. I’d share things I thought were obvious, and I was met with disbelief.
Is that really me? they’d ask. Did I really accomplish all that?
Frequently, they cried. It happened so often that I started warning them in advance. They couldn’t see what I saw because they took their own strengths for granted.
Don’t take your brilliance for granted.
You are way more qualified than you think you are.
You are way more experienced than you think you are.
You have accomplished a hell of a lot more than you think you have.
You are a badass, and you’ve got this. 💪🏼
Wow, what a completely wonderful surprise to find my latest article featured in your daily letter! I am so honored, thanks Robin! 💗
