I asked ChatGPT for its weirdest creative exercises and here's what it gave me
Some are not actually terrible
Ever wonder what would happen if you put ChatGPT in charge of your Substack? Now’s your chance to find out. I’m traveling this week and mostly off the grid, so I’m letting the robots do all the work.
Every day this week, I’ll share a different question that I posed to ChatGPT about the creative process, along with my favorite responses. Who knows? Maybe it will spark some very human inspiration!
I asked ChatGPT for a list of “wild, weird, and whimsical exercises to help spark creativity,” and some of the ideas were… kind of awesome, actually?
These are my favorites:
Imaginary Friend Interview: Pretend you're a talk show host and interview your imaginary friend. Ask them questions about their life, hobbies, and adventures, and let your imagination run wild with their responses.
Fantasy Shopping Spree: Imagine you have unlimited funds and access to a magical store where anything you can dream of is available for purchase. Make a list of the most fantastical and whimsical items you would buy and why.
Time Travel Postcards: Write postcards to yourself from different time periods or alternate dimensions. Describe the sights, sounds, and experiences of these imaginary places, and let your imagination transport you to these whimsical worlds.
Parallel Universe Diary: Write diary entries from the perspective of your alternate self in a parallel universe where everything is slightly different. Describe the similarities and differences between your life and theirs, and let your imagination explore the possibilities.
Lost and Found: Imagine you stumble upon a mysterious lost and found box filled with unusual and magical items. Write a story about the adventures you have using these items, and the strange characters you meet along the way.
If you gave any of these exercises a try, leave a comment (or perhaps a time travel postcard?) and let me know how it went!
The parallel universe one got me thinking. 🧐
