There’s a wonderful SmallTalk discussion happening right now over at SmallStack HQ where our community is asking for and offering help in equal measure. It is beautiful and life-affirming and I highly recommend you check it out (go ahead, I’ll still be here when you’re done 😊).
My favorite offer so far is from
, a genuine wizard who offered to do a Tarot draw and explication for anyone with a burning question.I asked:
What do I need to know right now about building a career that aligns with my highest self?
Rosie replied:
You got the Six of Wands, Victory! There is fuel for you in collaboration and public celebration. Luck comes by way of visibility — don't be scared to go big.
Don’t be scared to go big. All the breath left my lungs as I read those words. For years, I’ve danced at the edges of going big. I’ve taken risks, made powerful connections, even gained bits of short-lived notoriety… but these were all small swings, one-base hits and bunts.
What if I swung for a home run? What if I really went for it? What does that even mean? Do I know? Am I ready to find out?
In Peru, on the road through the Andes from Cusco to Puno, there is a pass called La Raya. It’s 14,232 feet above sea level, and it feels like standing on the edge of the world. Have you ever tried to breathe at 14,232 feet?
First, you gasp with the shock of it. Your lungs are working. The breath flows in and out of your nose. But where is the air? Your cells ache with the lack of it. Your mind cracks with confusion and unexpected clarity. You are here. You are breathless with the pain and wonder of it all. You are more alive than you’ve ever felt.
The thought of going big feels a lot like that.
Are you afraid? Me too. Doesn’t mean we aren’t ready.
Well thos was lovelyessage to read first thing this morning! I'm on the precipace too. But what is with all the stuff dumped in a pile at the Peruvian pass?
